Too many people don’t have clean water because they live in the shadow of extractive industries. And as they’ve found out the hard way, the true value of clean drinking water isn’t fully appreciated until it’s gone.

You and I know that pure water is more precious than gold. Or oil. Or gas. And your investment in our work paid clean water dividends in 2008 and will continue to do so in 2009 :

Our Oil and Gas Accountability Project was a driving force in the enactment of new drilling regulations in Colorado and New Mexico that not only help protect landowners, cities and their water, but also have saved the industry money ; We raised the alarm against toxic hydraulic fracturing in the eastern U.S. — which could pollute the drinking water of New York City and most of the mid-Atlantic states ; and We convinced the State of Nevada to enforce its mercury mining regulations -substantially reducing toxic mercury pollution from western mines.
